OK, their new album is supposed to be heavy and that’s what they were aiming for. And they delivered.
Frankly, I haven’t heard of them until I saw their True Believers video popup in my Instagram feed, and saw Sam featured so I got curious.
Tracklist + Thoughts
- Cellophane: Great start to the album. MV is interesting enough to watch as well. Not a lot happening, but visually interesting. Nice breakdown about 2.5 min in.
- Disappear: Rob has some good range, from light and airy all the way to good solid screams. Light and airy for most of the runtime for this one though. Good groove.
- Somersaults: Dark and heavy rock with some airy vocals. Nice to have playing in the background but not mosh material.
- Nightmare Tripping (feat Nickelback): WOAH Nickelback doing metal core???? Title track feels like a manic trip from screaming to catchy chorus and then CHAD KROEGER???? It has some synths happening and feels like a whole vibe with Chad. Then there’s a drop at 3min in and it’s pretty interesting then we get Chad jumping in with more of his modern-rock post-grunge vocals. Interesting song.
- Ghost In The Night: Starts like a typical modern rock song. Sounds like a modern rock song. OK modern rock song I guess. The last 15sec sounds a bit heavier.
- True Believers (feat Sam Carter): It starts off like a “pop” song but yeah, it goes hard and strong after the first few seconds. Starts with some Nü Metal tendencies there but then Sam comes in and wrecks shit up. Pre-mosh soft singing chorus build-up before a MASSIVE drop and Sam’s trademark blegh! He did the thing! And we’re back to headbanging. MV for this one was interesting as well, and always good to see Sam in things. They seem like they’re having a lot of fun.
- Euphoria: Oh nice, singing and then a quick and heavy drop. I can see this playing well at a show. Good chant and shout moments throughout with some fun head banging moments.
- Pacify Me: Interesting intro with some good heavy barks vs. high sing-whisper contrasts. Leads to some regular singing and then a simple crowd-sing-along-able chorus. Good romp.
- Swimming Pools: Catchy start with fun riff. They use the motif well throughout the song.
- Hype Man: Nümetal style start. Then back to their style of high singing chorus. Then back to numetal. Goes into an interesting drop. I think the synth sounds adds a lot more interesting sounds. Fun breakdown.
- The Corner: What is this. This sounds like a modern rock song. Good emotional singing chops, but a bit boring to me. (I’ll always like faster, heavier, crunchier, romps and gallops)
I like how they have synth textures in the songs giving it an extra dimension.
Some parts metalcore, nümetal, Nevermore, NIN, modern rock, all together makes for a fun time.
Good drops, good sound. Hope they keep going heavy, they seem like they can deliver a good mix of catchy with heavy.
I liked 6, 1, 8, 10, 4 in that order.
