I saw this movie at the theater a couple of weeks ago.
and I absolutely LOVED it.
Absolutely amazing visuals, good humor, I laughed a LOT, and smiled during most of the run time.
The two ships trying to establish a connection was a very funny scene as well.
There are a lot of funny chuckle-level scenes, and yeah, of course, it’s a Ryan Gosling movie.
I had 1 burst out loud laugh moment (and made the rest of the theater laugh with me) which is not even a line delivered by Gosling. But frankly, with Gosling, I think it’s a given that the movie will be funny, he’s pretty good working in films that are funny.

When Rylan (Gosling) says “permission to get on board” when stepping onto a platform on the deck of an aircraft carrier, Eva (Hüller) says “you are already on board.” and that cracked me up. She’s established as someone who doesn’t get jokes, and that moment was unexpectedly HILARIOUS.
Considering The Fall Guy, The Nice Guys, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and ALL his interviews, he’s always been funny.
OK, so the other stuff. Like the “science” and “the book.” I have a degree in physics (I really do), so I appreciate good science. I’ve just started reading the book, so I’m not 100% on the book-to-movie conversion, but overall, the movie does seem to simplify and skip over some stuff, but I think it’s fine to do that.
It keeps the story moving, and as long as you’re NOT Neil deGrasse Tyson, it should be fine.
The humor is good, the story is good, and although the villain doesn’t get their comeuppance, I guess it’s ok. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think Eva (Hüller) is the villain for forcing Ryland onto the rocket.
Everyone gets what they want/need in the end so it’s a satisfying end.
So yeah, I give this a 4.5/5
Pretty awesome, man, I can’t wait to watch it again.
